It's always good to have a root/bulb in our diet weekly once to keep our body health. When I seen the Tapioca in the market, I remembered that Our ancestor average age before 50's or 60's was around 90 to 100 years. Because they used to have lot of natural foods like root, greens, porridge, boiled grams, home made food items. So I decided to buy this and make poriyal/varuval for my snack. In my home we used to make this during the tapioca season for our snack.

Ingredients:

Tapioca - 1 lb
Red chilli - 3
Mustard seed - 1 tsp
Urad dal - 1 tsp
Turmeric powder - ¼ tsp
Grated coconut - 1 tsp
Oil - 1 tsp
Salt as required

Steps:

Cut the tapioca into 1 inch pieces.
Put the pieces into water and add turmeric powder, salt. Bring to boil until the tapioca 90% cook. Make sure it is not over cooked.

Remove out cooked tapioca from hot water and peel out the skin. It is easy to peel since it is cooked. You can peel without cooking as well and then cook. But it is little harder to peel out. Then you can cut into cubes.
Add 1 tsp of oil in a pan and heat it. Once oil hot add mustard seed and urad dal. Break the red chilli into pieces and add when mustard seeds start splutter.

Now add cooked tapioca and toss it.
Finally add grated coconut and toss it again.
Now wonderful Tapioca poriyal is ready to serve.
