First of all, aluminum is present all around us on earth so it goes a little bit inside the body all the way through the air we breathe, the food we eat, the water we drink.

The aluminum needed by our body is accepted and the rest is eliminated through waste.

  • There is no harm in eating food that is wrapped in aluminum foil once in a while, but eating continuously can cause harm when large amounts of aluminum enter the body.
  • More importantly, when hot food is wrapped in aluminum foil it reacts with the aluminum and blends into the food.
  • Foods cooked with acidic substances such as tomatoes, lemon are said to be more reactive.
  • The salt and spices added to the food allow the aluminum in the aluminum foil to penetrate into the food.

  • People with high levels of health are able to excrete more aluminum from the body. But this is not possible for all ages.
  • Although high levels of aluminum have been found in the brains of people with Alzheimer's disease, it has not yet been proven that it is caused by eating aluminum foil. However, it is said that the main reason is the high amount of aluminum entering the body.
  • The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) say that less than 2 mg of body weight of 2.2 pounds per week does not cause harm.
  • The European Food Safety Authority uses the old estimate of 2.2 pounds (1 kg) per 1 mg body weight per week.
  • Most people seem to use less than this.

Well, how to control the amount of aluminum going into the body?

  • The use of aluminum foil should be minimized.
  • Aluminum foil is definitely not suitable for foods cooked in our culture.
  • Never use aluminum foil for dishes cooked with ingredients such as tomatoes or lemon.
  • It is better to avoid frozen foods sold in stores as it contains too much aluminum in the chemicals added.
  • It is good for the body if we eat home-cooked food as much as possible.
